Wellington Netball Club was born from a group of ladies who love to play social netball and wanted to attend a local club. The 'Welly Warriors' played in a local social league but had no club to train from – so they created their own! At first they set up sessions, with England Netball facilitating, and it soon
became evident that there was an appetite in the community for netball sessions.
Opening up the Club to both adults and children, we want netball to be accessible to the community of Wellington.
Our ethos promotes teamwork, compassion and wellbeing.
We aim to be a social club as well as a sports club that promotes both physical and mental wellbeing to everyone who wants to jon us.
We currently have over 80 members and 4 teams in the SASP social league.
We hope our legacy continues, and that Wellington will benefit from have its own Netball Club in the years to come.
We offer 2 senior sessions per week, both on a
Wednesday evening
Our first session is a coached session, which is perfect for
those wanting to get back to netball after a long absence, or for those that want to try the sport for the first time.
It is a mix of coaching and game play.
It is a great opportunity to 'dip your toe' into netball.
Our second session is a match-play session. It is designed
for players who are confident with the rules and the positions.
It is a great session to get out and play – and includes
some fabulous tips from our brilliant coaches – but it is
more consistent game play.
We also arrange friendly matches for those who want some extra game time or to experience competitive
netball within a safe environment. There may also be opprtunity to join a team that plays in the SASP social league.
For anyone who may be interested we can also arrange
training to become a coach, an umpire, or guidance on
course to achieve qualifications in this area.
We offer 2 age groups for our Junior's
(under 16 years), both on a Tuesday evening
Our first junior session is for our very little people, aged 6–9 years. We offer a 35-minute 'Bee' netball session.
This aims to give children of this age group a taste of
netball while having fun! We then have an under 12 session which follows the Bee program with the opportunity of competitive netball
Our second junior session is for the older children, aged 11–16. Consisting of 2 sessions, split into school age groups 7-9 (under 14) and 9-11 (under 16), these are hour-long coached sessions. Our Junior classes are open to all abilities and aims to teach, not only the game of netball but the benefits of working as a team. We aim to improve the skills and the confidence of each player.
We endeavour to provide friendly matches to give the juniors a taste of competitive netball within a safe environment. We also compete at both ages in Somerset County Netball league for those that wish to play competitively.
